Here is an excellent website pertaining to the different wines/wineries in different areas of Spain.
www.grapesofspain.com
Interesting Facts to sound smart with!:
1. 15.5% of the world's vineyards are in Spain ranking them 1st among areas covered by vineyards
2. The main red grape varieties in Spain are Tempranillo, Bobal, Garnacha (Grenache) & Monastrell.
The main white grape varieties in Spain are Airén, Macabeo, Palomino & Pedro Ximenez

How you SHOULD taste wine:
1. Don't overfill your glass (there's a reason why huge glasses consist of only 1/3 of wine.
2. Tilt glass against bright light to see colour
3. Swirl the glass in circular motion to release aroma
4. Smell the wine (hard sniff)
5. Drink and appreciate!
- Do not swirl around in your mouth! (might be too much alcohol, not enough taste)
- You might also want to suck air into your mouth to get stronger sense of flavour (not too much though, as it might go down the wrong way!)
6. Acknowledge the aftertaste of wine.

From my experience, like meaning from friends etc., they have always asked me where the wine area is, what kind of grapes are used in Spain, etc. I'm a big fan of spanish wine but admittedly I wish I knew more about them. I think the whole process of vinification is fascinating actually..
Sounds like you've got a bit of knowledge - share it! I wanna sound smart to my friends :)
